Preparing Your Household Pet With Great Dane Training
On getting a Great Dane puppy, Great Dane training will always be the primary concern. This aspect is extremely important even though they are not known as violent dogs. It is because of their size when they become mature. A full grown Great Dane could stand at 5 feet and weigh more or less 200 lbs. Can you simply imagine an untrained Great Dane jumping around your house smashing things accidentally? Now that is going to be a big time problem.
Jumping Should NOT be Allowed
Since they are known to be friendly dogs, it is quite natural for them to greet and jump up on people especially their owners. This behavior can be let go while they are still puppies but when they become mature it would be intolerable if your Great Dane would jump up on people given with their size. This is where basic dog training of avoiding them from jumping up sets in. You simply have to keep them on ground whenever they try to greet people and whenever they successfully followed your command reward them with petting or treats. Simply be consistent with this and your Great Dane will later get the hang of it. You must avoid scolding them or using violence on them since this breeds aggression in them and will never help in the long run.
Potty Training
Another important aspect of dog training that you should consider with your Great Dane is potty training. If you prefer your Great Dane to be an in-house dog, then you would not want him to lay his waste inside the house. The best method with potty training is to observe and watch over your dog’s actions when he is about to urinate or defecate, as soon as you see him sniffing around or squatting in order to lay waste simply pull him over outside the house so that he will be able to lay his waste outside. Dogs normally lay waste on the same spot every now and then so as long as you are consistent with the potty training then it will be automatic for them to go out even though when you are not around just to bowel or pee.
Great Dane training is easy and fun. Although it may take some time, you will surely enjoy the benefits of it after all the hard work and patience that you put to all the training sessions you had with your Great Dane.
