A How-To Guide for Golden Retriever Training
People have varying reasons why they pick a Golden Retriever as their top option to have as a pet dog. Most people say that it is because of their friendly and playful nature. Some also say that it is because this type of dog is easier to train given that they have a fairly high IQ making them easier to train. However, Golden Retriever training can also turn out to be unsuccessful even if the dog is bright enough to learn your commands. It is because Golden Retriever training doesn’t only rely on the dog’s intelligence but also with the trainer’s capabilities. Here are a few tips so that your trainings will never go wrong in the end.
Proper Toilet Habits
The first lessons in basic dog training is usually on teaching the dog how to go to the bathroom. But for dog owners who want their dogs to do potty training outside the house then the most effective way for it is by using a crate. Most dogs doesn’t want to lay their wastes near where they sleep or stay most of the time. Try keeping your Golden Retriever puppy inside a crate for a certain period of time until you feel that they are about to urinate or defecate. Take them out at this time and guide them to the spot where you would ideally like them to throw their wastes out. Simply repeat the process consistently until they get used to their toilet spot.
Biting and Chewing
Dogs are naturally curious with their surroundings but instead of using their paws, they use their noses and mouths in order to sniff around and bite or nip at things that they find unusual. It is extremely important to also train a Golden Retriever in this aspect. Although sniffing is considerable to okay but when they just chew or nip at things just because they want to should be corrected. They could get destructive whenever this behavior is tolerated. The best approach to correct this behavior would be to hand the Golden Retriever chew toys and make him identify what he can chew or not.
Golden retriever training requires time and lots of patience. Although everything may sound so simple but in fact it will turn out to be difficult once you do not exert effort in it. Most importantly, you simply just have to enjoy and consider the whole process as fun instead of considering it as a laborous task.
