Although it is a given fact that dogs are perfect as pets, they need discipline and training much like how disciplined your kids are. It would be okay to pamper your pet dogs at a certain extent but you should certainly avoid them getting spoiled.
Likewise, dog training benefit your dogs as well, since they become aware of their limitations and of what is good and bad for them, and for you. In fact, it has always been unknown to some dog owners that dog training has mutual benefits.
Setting the Rules for Dog Training
Establishing the rules should always be the first step in dog training. These rules must be imposed at all times and you have to make sure that the same rule is followed by your other pets as well.
For example, if you don’t want your dogs to stay on your sofa then you should not let your cats stay on top of it either. Much like humans, pets deserve fair love and attention too.
After setting the rules straight, it is now your sole responsibility to be consistent in enforcing them. Although it is sometimes heartbreaking not to give or let your puppy do what he wants to but it is very critical to make sure that the dog is going to get trained in every possible aspect.
There should be a different mindset for dog training and for playing around with them. This way, training will be much easier since the dog will slowly learn that there is a time for things and that they will not have things their way most of the time.
Your dog must look up to you as his master so that he will follow your instructions during training sessions, but do not forget to be his friend as well during playtimes.
Dog Training becomes much easier
As soon as you your dog starts to follow your commands it is important to reward him for every successful command.
Rewards may come in dog treats or through simple acts of affection like petting. Always keep in mind that a positive reinforcement is advised for more effective results rather than punishing them .
You must also be able to emphasize why these rewards are handed so that it will be installed on their minds that there is a good thing waiting for them whenever they do something good for you.
Being consistent with your training methods is also important so that the dog will easily get used to things rather having different training methods every other time.
Dog training may seem difficult if we come to think of it, but if you tend to dedicate time and effort on it then the result will simply be a few weeks away.
However, in dog training, it will also be much easier if you start training them when they are puppies. If they become mature before you start training them, their old habits are already too hard to break.
